Ultimate Acai Berry Smoothie Recipe Cookbook
The perfect gift for yourself or an acai loving, health conscious friend. The Ultimate Acai Smoothie Cookbook has over 120 acai recipe ideas for delicious blended acai drinks for enjoyment any time of day. It is written by Donna J. Pliner Rodnitzky, who is the author of many smoothie cookbooks, so she is a real pro when it comes to blended drinks with ice cream, yogurt, fruits and juices. You’ll see there are so many ways to enjoy the delicious chocolately berry flavor of acai just in smoothie form!

The Ultimate Acai Smoothie Cookbook came out last year. In addition to recipes, it provides instructions on how to select and store fruit like different types of berries and melons, so that you’ll enjoy their maximum health and taste benefits.

The recipes are organized by fruit. For example, if you have bananas on hand, you can go to the banana section and find smoothies containing acai and bananas. (A delicious combination, I might add). Recipes tend to use 3-9 ingredients, most of which are readily available. Access to fresh fruit, dairy and soy milks, yogurts, sorbets, juices and nutritious additions
like flaxseed and wheat germ, are all you need to enjoy most of the acai recipes in this book.

You might opt for something pretty straightforward like an acai, raspberry, banana, blueberry yogurt smoothie. Or, venture a bit farther afield with an acai, pineapple, peach, banana, tofu and peach soy yogurt smoothie. Either way, you’ll never tire of the many smoothie recipe combinations, or the unique flavor of acai.   Enjoy!

Acai Berry Fruit Smoothies For Health: Best Practices

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Written by a dietitian, this article is a great overview on how to select the best ingredients for fruit smoothies.  As you may have seen, the acai berry has been showing up on smoothie menus around the country.  But is an acai smoothie healthier than another type of fruit smoothie?  Not necessarily.  You’ll find flavonoids, antioxidants and potentially other disease-fighting nutrients in plenty of other fruits.

The author also provides tips on what not to include in your fruit smoothie.  This includes ice cream, sorbet and fruit purees, which lack the nutritional value of whole fresh and frozen fruits.

“When it comes to picking the ingredients for a smoothie, you really can’t go wrong by starting with any kind of fruit, whether fresh or frozen. Bananas are probably the most common choice, partially for the taste, but also because they add a rich texture, especially if they’ve been frozen before blending. As for the calorie content, don’t be afraid: While they are one of the more energy-dense fruits, the roughly 110 calories a banana provides is quite low compared with many other snack foods — and few foods of any kind are as rich in blood pressure-lowering potassium.

Aside from bananas, berries of any kind are a great choice for their antioxidant and fibre content, as well as their relatively low calorie content.”

Just juice it for better health.

Acai Berry need no more introduction as this Brazilian wonder fruit has been recommended by several medical & health experts along with celebrities. It is fairly rich in the antioxidants, healthy fatty acids, vitamins and several other nutrients that are essential for the body. Acai smoothies is one of the best supplements derived out of acai berry fruit which helps in reducing body weight and detoxification of toxins from major organs of the body especially from liver and colon.

Acai is extremely rich in dietary fibers. Therefore, the experts recommend this fruit for the morning and mid day diet. Another fact that you must know is that it has very low shelf value. This berry is processed within 24 hours of its collection. It is freeze dried and turned into a fine powder. Then this powder is used to make capsules, pills, juices and pulp. These juices and pulps have been used in several recipes by Rachel Ray to prepare acai smoothies. The drink is quite beneficial for health in case you take it in the breakfast every morning.

The Ingredients in Acai Smoothies

· Acai fruit powder or juice

· One Banana

· Milk or soy milk

· Vanilla frozen yogurt

· Blender

How to prepare Acai Smoothies

· Pick a standard acai berry juice like mona vie or Bom Dia. In case you pick out a powder, go for Acai Gogo.

· Take 1 cup of acai juice or maybe 1 portion of acai powder and add it to the blender.

· Pour a cup of soy milk in this. This solely depends on your choice & taste. In case you opt for milk, preferable go for the low fat or the non fat milk.

· Slice the full banana into the mix. This would add a sweet flavor and give the drink a creamy texture. Banana is packed with potassium that strengthens your bones and increases the energy levels.

· Now add 1/2 a cup of vanilla flavored frozen yogurt. This also be substituted for low fat frozen yogurt.

· Blend it for around 20 to 30 seconds.

· Pour this into a glass and enjoy the smoothie.
