Acai Face Mask Recipe

Friday, September 18th, 2009

We love homemade facial treatments and this like a great acai recipe for your face.  We aren’t familiar with the brands in this article so if they aren’t available in your area, any type of freeze dried acai berries and type of honey or agave nectar should suffice.

RIOLIFE RELAX Acai berry FACE MASQUE: A luxurious creamy face masque that naturally hydrates and soothes, leaving skin feeling soft and looking radiant. This masque includes three of natures best beauty ingredients; Acai, Avocado and Honey- Easy, inexpensive and effective. Remember to always use certified organic ingredients so that skin is not absorbing any chemical toxins.

Ingredients:
1 Scoop RioLife Organic Freeze Dried Acai berries
¼ Mashed ripe Avocado
1 Tablespoon Manuka Honey
Directions: Mix well, apply liberally to a clean face and avoid the delicate eye area. Lie back and relax (AAH-sigh-EE) for 10-20 minutes with a RioLife Cocktail. Rinse off with warm water and pat the skin dry.

Acai Berry Cocktail Recipe: Acai of Relief

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

Some consume acai for weight loss, others as part of their beauty regimen.  But we also enjoy acai at happy hour.  Here’s Sara Hohn’s acai recipe for a refreshing acai berry cocktail.

Like the pomegranate martini and the cosmopolitan before it, will the acai cocktail (working title: Acai of Relief) be just another fruity booze fad or will it join Brazil’s famous caipirinha as a fully legitimized palliative?   With its unquestionable health benefits, an acai cocktail makes a traditional cosmopolitan look like Tab and a pomegranate martini like Ovaltine.   Should we expect to see $16 acai martinis or acai margaritas offered in hotel bars this summer?   Furthermore, will dried acai berries be as overhwhelmingly popular as craisins (dried cranberries) in the early 80s?  (And would they be called acaisins?)  Perhaps one day my farmers’ market will have an acai stand, in the way there is a wheat grass stand today.  The acai has come this far, I don’t think it’s going anywhere.

Here’s a loose approximation of my first ever acai cocktail experiment.  A word to the wise: acai may help combat macular degeneration, but it won’t prevent your hangover.

Acai of Relief

3 oz cachaca
3 oz acai juice
2 oz orange juice
2 oz lime juice
2 oz club soda
2 T agave nectar
2 T fresh chopped mint
mint sprig for garnish

Combine first six ingredients.  Mottle chopped mint with this mixture to release its flavor.  Strain and pour mixture over ice.  Garnish with mint sprig.

Acai Berry Smoothies: Back To Basics

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

As dedicated smoothie-makers ourselves, we were delighted to come across this thoughtful article,”A Smooth Way To Extra Nutrients,” on Canada.com by dietician Jennifer Sygo. The story discusses the acai smoothie and the best ways to prepare this healthful, delicious drink.  If you have access to frozen acai berries or pure acai pulp, try adding them to your whole fruit smoothies.  Avoid juices that may contain unwanted sugars, but bananas, berries, soy milk and yogurt make for a great backdrop for your acai smoothie. Finding Edible Alternatives To Acai Supplements

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

If all the bad press about acai hucksters has kept you away from trying acai supplements, consider a delicious (and less expensive!) alternative.

The highly versatile powder form of acai can be added to almost anything.  It is perfect for putting in brownie , cookie and pancake batters.  It’s also amazing in fruit smoothies.  For example, a blueberry-acai smoothie with low-fat yogurt, ice, and  fruit juice.  You can even sprinkle it over hot cereal!

How about a delicious acai cocktail?  Several vodka producers have been marketing acai-infused alcoholic drinks as well as some fabulous cocktail ideas.  Start off with an acai-infused vodka, mango juice, lemon and agave syrup. Relatively simple, but quite tasty.
