What MonaVie Acai Drinks Taste Like

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Ever wonder what MonaVie tastes like but aren’t ready to commit to buying a big bottle?  Here’s an interesting report on one person’s experience with MonaVie from a “layman’s” perspective.  He defines superfoods and explains how acai beverages like MonaVie provide health benefits.  There are several MonaVie acai juice formulas that promote different aspects of your health.  One called MonaVie Active enhances joint health.  Another, MonaVie Pulse, delivers heart health benefits.

“I tried it. It tastes good, like a fruity V8, but somehow cooler.  It’s not a “drink,” think about it like a liquid vitamin that you drink a little bit of every day. It comes in bottle form, a energy drink and a gel.  My favorite is the energy drink MonaVie EMV, it isn’t quite as thick as the traditional MonaVie bottled drinks and tastes great.  I would put up against Red Bull in a minute.  Not only does it taste great with Vodka, but apparently if you drink it with out the booze, it is actually much healthier for you than the every day energy drinks.”

Acai Berry Green Tea Review. Thoughts?

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

We haven’t gotten around to trying every single acai product out there, but we’re trying!

In the meantime, you’ll enjoy this review of acai green tea at TeaDiscussion.  The tea, made by Republic of Tea, seems less about the nuanced green tea flavor and more about the acai fruit, (or grape? blueberry?) but still enjoyable.

Here’s an excerpt:

“Well, for starters, the aroma of this tea was a surprise indeed. Indeed, I would have guessed this tea to be a herbal tea by the aroma…it was a pure berry fragrance, resembling but not identical to blueberry. The aroma wasn’t overwhelmingly strong, but was still quite distinct.

Once I brewed up the tea, I got a even stranger surprise. Instead of a light green colored tea, this tea was a beautiful “pinkish red” in color! A green tea that brewed up pinkish-red? Huh? Well, I wanted something different…so I had no cause to gripe.

I admit I looked at this tea a bit dubiously. I mean, a pinkish-red green tea. Come on! On top of that, the tea really didn’t have a strong aroma once brewed, making me all the more curious about it since I had no clue whatsoever what it might taste like. So, on the theory that nothing ventured is nothing gained, I gave this tea a try.

Yet another surprise. This tea tasted similar in many ways to other blueberry herbal teas I’ve had. To avoid confusion here, this is NOT a blueberry tea. But, the Acai berries of the Amazon rainforest do have a similar flavor to them. And similar to blueberries, the flavor is very strong. So strong in fact that you will NOT find a trace of your typical green tea flavor in this tea.”

Compare Acai Products – Juices, Powders, Drinks

Monday, September 21st, 2009

The choices of acai products can become overwhelming.  Between the many forms and brands, it’s difficult to determine which acai berry product best suits  your needs.

If you’re on the go, individual packets of acai powder are an easy and convenient way to enjoy a single serving.  For example, 1oz AcaiGogo packets are simply mixed with water.

Another convenient way to enjoy acai drinks is through brands such as Bossanova superfruit juices.  This and other acai juice brands are becoming widely available even in convenience stores.  Each individually-portioned bottle costs between $3 and $5 dollars.  So, there’s no need to buy many servings if you just want to try it out.

Monavie acai products require a higher initial investment (about $40 per 750ml  bottle) and is purchased through a local distributor.

Another consideration when buying acai is its ingredients.  While some acai products are comprised only of acai berry juice and a sweetener such as agave nectar, others are blends of many juices besides acai.   Flavors of acai products vary widely, depending on how much sugar is added.  Juice blends can be very healthy and delicious, but it’s important to know what you’re getting, and not led to believe a product is exclusively acai.

After the link you’ll find a comparison chart of major acai brands and their prices, quanity and contents.    We hope this helps you in deciding which acai product to try.

Maca Miracle Bars: The Next Acai?

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

While we’ve all observed acai’s huge rise in popularity, there are other superfoods from around the world entering the radar.

Maca is a root vegetable and medicinal herb, found mostly in Peru and consumed and traded for centuries. It is served as a porridge, fermented into a drink, added to salads and prepared in countless other ways.  More recently, it has found its way into health food and specialty products. Similar to the acai berry, noni fruit, goji berry and mangosteen juices, maca has been introduced to North American dieters.  It’s been suggested that maca extracts  have health benefits such as helping with fertility.

Treehugger shares an interesting review of a Potent Life maca nutrition bar.  He’s an excerpt:

“The production of Maca is fair trade and supports indigenous communities and is grown organically and harvested ecologically so you can feel good about that part if you do purchase the bar. Plus most, if not all, of the other ingredients that go into the bars are either organic or chosen for their health benefits.”
