The Acai berry, Superfoods and Kids

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

It’s important to educate children early on how to recognize accurate and inaccurate information about the foods they eat.   Articles like this one help lay out one particularly thorny issues having to do with the health claims made by superfruit product manufacturers such as an acai berry drink.  It’s geared toward older children and discusses the acaiberry along with pomegranate, noni and goji berry products. It talks about how these products are marketed to the public and how scientific research is conducted on things like acai berry juice.  All in all, great information for both kids and adults.

Here’s an excerpt:

“Studies like these add to a long history of medicinal uses for natural products in traditional cultures. The açaí fruit, for one, which grows only on palm trees in the Brazilian Amazon, has been used to treat fevers. Goji berries, which grow in China and Tibet, have been used to reduce inflammation and improve eyesight. And pomegranates, which are native to Iran and India (but now also grow in California), are sometimes eaten to relieve digestive distress.

Still, there are no large, long-term studies that clearly link any exotic fruits with better health. And nutritionists worry that people are too easily drawn in by whatever’s new and different. All the studies that do show health benefits of certain fruits were sponsored by companies that sell them, and most of the studies lasted only a few days or months.”

Acai Berry Powder Has Its Advantages

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

As you know, there are many ways to consume acai, including acai juice, and frozen acaiberry pulp.  One less popular, but highly convenient and cost-effective type of acai is in its powder form.

Acai berry powder has several advantages:

1.  It weighs very little, so if you are ordering it from a distributor by mail, you’ll pay next to nothing in shipping.  Large mona vie juice bottles come in extremely heavy cases and are difficult to carry and store.  You can tuck a package of acai berry powder into your pocket or bag.

2.  Acai berry powder is flexible.  It can be added to foods like yogurt or ice cream, as well as drinks like smoothies.  It’s also more portable than carrying a bottle of juice around.

3.  You have control over what you consume.  While some acai products such as acai berry juice blends may combine lots of unwanted ingredients, powders contain all of the ORAC capacity, fiber, vitamins and minerals without a high glycemic load, lactose or gluten.

Be sure to look for acai berry powder that is naturally extracted from the acai fruit before being processed into powder.  It should also be certified organic, and free of additives, fillers and preservatives.

Acai – How it Grows and Where it Goes

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

The acai berry grows in groves on 25 meter high palm trees. While they’re most known as being Brazilian, acai can also be found throughout Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and the Guyanas. Acai can be harvested year-round due to Brazil’s warm climate, however the most productive acai harvesting time is in October and January. While we know of its use in vitamin supplements, juices and energy drinks, acai is also widely used in folk medicine to treat a variety of conditions such as intestinal ailments.

Because of its fragile nature once picked, the nearly-black berries can’t be kept more than 48 hours, even in refrigeration. In regions of Brazil such as in the state of Para, acai consumption is high and baskets and bags are available for purchase seven days a week in town markets. Acai can be made into juice, or further processed into “acai wine.” In some areas, acai is mostly consumed as a drink or dessert such as in ice cream. In other parts of Brazil, it is incorporated into the evening meal as a side dish thickened with tapioca flour and served with fish, shrimp meat, rice and beans.

Due to its recent popularity outside of South America, commercialization of the acai plant in Brazil has become very lucrative. However, careful measures are being taken to ensure it is done sustainably to preserve native acai tree forests and selecting plants best suitable for production. This perennial plant is critical to the conservation of the soil, a necessity in some regions that receive heavy tropical rains. Over 1,000,000 hectares of acai groves are currently being cultivated in the Amazon estuary. More than 12,000 hectares are being developed using sustainable management techniques, with the benefits being felt at both local and global levels. Regions such as Para export as much as 80% of its acai pulp throughout Brazil and the world including Japan, United States, Italy and Argentina.

Learn About Sambazon

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

One company has really made a name for themselves and they are helping the environment. Will Sambazon be the next Starbucks? Who knows, but one thing is for sure, this organically made product may be the best superfood on the market. Are you ready to slow down the aging process and have more energy then a bus load of giddy cheerleaders?

Through researching herbal companies, I find some that really shine and others that are just trying to make money from marketing hype. Sambazon is the real deal! Not only do super star celebrities like Denise Richards drink their product, but Dr. Nicholas Perricone even uses the Sambazon acai berry product. He ranks this as the number one superfood!

The acai berry may be the ultimate energy boosting drink you have been searching for on the net. All companies are not created equal and only one company has made the best product. They have literally branded the name and caught the attention of companies like Coca Cola. Ryan Black is the Ceo of this remarkable company and he learned about the acai berry while he was surfing in Brazil.

What impresses me about Ryan Black is he really cares about the positive financial, environmental and social impact of this super berry. The company’s supplies are organic products made of the açai fruit from the Amazon rain forest in Brazil. The company helps protect the jungle by making açai berry more valuable than cutting the trees down. This is a great company with a great story, that I believe will only get bigger.

I believe Ceo Ryan Black is more focused on making a strongly pure and potent product, then any other company on earth. Most of the other companies I researched were multi-level marketing companies. I like how Ryan Black makes sure his acai berries are organic and come directly from Brazil.

So, what is the big deal about the Brazilian berry anyways? Well, for starters, this juice superfood can boost energy levels like you have never seen. This may help people with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Let’s take a look at what a super surfer girl and Men’s Health have to say about this amazing product.

“The main reason I like Sambazon Acai is cause it’s “yummy”, I eat it everyday and it makes me feel alive with energy. I’m all about eating healthy whole foods and Sambazon products are organic with lots of antioxidants.” – Bethany Hamilton (surfer girl)

“A study in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry discovered that the black-purple berries contain higher levels of antioxidants than do pomegranates and blueberries. And a University of Florida study found that an acai extract triggered a self-destruction response in 90 percent of the leukemia cells it came in contact with, which is a promising finding for scientists working to cure cancer.” – Men’s Health – June 2007

I have studied hundreds of herbs and foods and this one just blows my mind! Lower concentrations of the freeze-dried pulp were found to be slightly stimulating to macrophages in vitro. Macrophages are white blood cells that are an important part of the immune system of the body. Wow! It can help strengthen the immune system and it taste good.

Let’s look at some of the reported benefits that this superfood may give you:

Fights cancerous cells, minimizes inflammation, improves mental clarity and focus, cleanses and detoxifies the body of infectious toxins, promotes healthier and younger-looking skin, improves digestive function, helps maintain healthy heart function, alleviates diabetes, promotes sound sleep, provides all vital vitamins, normalizes and regulates cholesterol level, contains several important minerals, is an extremely powerful free radical fighter, it has very high levels of fibers, prevents artherosclerosis, enhances sexual desire and performance.

This is some outstanding health insurance to get started on now! Your getting a remarkable concentration of antioxidants that help combat premature aging, with 10 times more antioxidants than red grapes and 10 to 30 times the anthocyanins of red wine. A synergy of monounsaturated (healthy) fats, dietary fiber and phytosterols to help promote cardiovascular and digestive health. An almost perfect essential amino acid complex in conjunction with valuable trace minerals, vital to proper muscle contraction and regeneration.

“The fatty acid content in açaí resembles that of olive oil, and is rich in monounsaturated oleic acid. Oleic acid is important for a number of reasons. It helps omega-3 fish oils penetrate the cell membrane; together they help make cell membranes more supple. By keeping the cell membrane supple, all hormones, neurotransmitter and insulin receptors function more efficiently. This is particularly important because high insulin levels create an inflammatory state, and we know, inflammation causes aging.” – Dr. Nicholas Perricone

This berry is a vital part of a healthy diet and I encourage you to get out there and go for a 30 minute walk everyday! You will feel better and you can be energized today with most powerful superfood acai berry the world has ever known. May you get energized and live a long life!
